WHL roundup: McKenna paces Tigers to 5-3 win over Oil Kings

EDMONTON — Gavin McKenna had two goals and an assist and the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-3 in Western Hockey League action on Sunday at Rogers Place.

Mathew Ward, Hunter St. Martin and Marcus Pacheco also scored for the Central Division-leading Tigers (39-17-3-1), who outshot the hosts 39-28.

Adam Jecho scored twice for the Oil Kings (31-21-2-2), while Landon Hanson netted a single.

The Oil Kings went 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Tigers were 1-for-3.

WENATCHEE, Wash. — Evan Friesen scored three goals and Reid Andresen had four assists as the Wenatchee Wild beat the visiting Vancouver Giants 6-2.

Dawson Seitz, Shaun Rios and Miles Cooper also scored for the Wild (20-29-7-1), who outshot the visitors 31-24. Luka Shcherbyna chipped in with two assists.

Tyus Sparks and Adam Titlbach scored for the Giants (28-22-7-0), who played Friday in Kelowna, B.C., Saturday in Langley, B.C., and Sunday in Washington. The Giants eon 5-1 on Friday and lost 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Shea Van Olm scored twice and added two assists as the visiting Spokane Chiefs beat the Portland Winterhawks 7-3.

Andrew Cristall and Owen Martin also scored twice for the Chiefs (39-17-1-1), while Kaden Allan netted a single.

Alex Weiermair scored twice for the Winterhawks (31-22-2-1), while Josh Zakreski scored once. The Winterhawks outshot the visitors 44-36.
