The Innisfail Bantam AA hockey team came away with a victory during an exhibition game against a bantam team from Denver, Colo. last Sunday.
The two teams squared off Saturday morning in the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer and the Arapahoe Ice Warriors dominated the first two periods with a 4-0 lead.
"It was so exciting the boys brought it to a win at the end," said Sue Haddow, general manager for the Innisfail bantam team. Innisfail won 6-4 by the end of the game.
This was the first year most of the boys had a chance to play against the Denver team that since 2000, has travelled to Canada almost every year.
Their coach, Sean Caple, formerly from Red Deer, journeys with his bantam team every year to Red Deer to give his players a chance to play Canadian hockey.
The boys were also up against Sylvan Lake, Lacombe and Red Deer during their stay.
"It was great, I can't believe how well it went," explained Haddow, who said after the game both teams played a game of curling in Red Deer.
"Curling was new to our team as well. I don't think anyone had played before. I think some of them spent more time lying on the ice than curling," she said laughing.
"It was good for them to get a chance to get to do something together." She said in total, 43 players and parents were up from Denver.
