The Innisfail Skating Club celebrated the conclusion of its 49th season with its annual ice show on March 16.
This year's figure skating show, 鈥淏ig Top on Ice,鈥 was circus-themed and included PreCan Skaters dressed as circus animals, StarSkaters dressed as clowns and other PreCan Skaters performing as rodeo clowns.
It was the first time the Innisfail Skating Club held the annual ice show using the circus theme.
鈥淚t was awesome,鈥 said skating club program assistant and publicist Bridgette Sinclair. 鈥淚t was very organized this year because we had a lot of parents who helped us and we were very thankful for those parents.鈥
The annual ice show is an opportunity for local youth to demonstrate the skills they have practised and developed with coaches all season long. The show included solo performances, duos and group numbers.
The show also featured guest skaters such as Sue and Dylan Bullick, who have nearly 40 years of figure skating experience combined. Amy Severtson of the Red Deer and Royal Glenora skating clubs performed a graceful number to music from Pirates of the Caribbean. Discs sports competitor Rob McLeod put on a performance using Frisbees in his routine.
Sinclair estimates that between 200 and 500 people attend the skating club's show each year. The Innisfail Skating Club includes about 60 to 70 local youth skaters, she said.
鈥淭hey skated well,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey practised hard and it showed during the show. They worked hard and they got it done beautifully.鈥
