OLDS — The 2025 edition of the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes bonspiel was a great success, says bonspiel committee secretary Lori Gans.
Winners on the men’s side were the team of Gene Leonard, Brian Krall, Scott Medd and Gary Gaudette from the Town of Olds.
Ladies side winners were Kim Lewis, Marj Turkalo, Chris Donner & Tammy Burns of the Olds Regional Exhibition.
The 43rd annual men’s ‘spiel and the 40th Farmerettes edition were both held Feb. 11-15 at the Olds Curling Club.
"Gene Leonard’s team was up a few when Rick Phillip’s team came back and made a game of it. Leonard’s team won in the extra end," Gans wrote in an email.
She noted that this was the fifth time the Lewis rink has won the ladies side of the bonspiel.
“It was a great spiel. I think everyone had fun,” Gans wrote.
She said the ice for the event was “pretty good.”
“Rick Phillips and Andy Sweetman, put in lots of hours to make the ice fairly keen,” Gans wrote.
She said organizers will get together in March to discuss whether any changes need to be made to next year’s bonspiel.
