Open tournament play at the Innisfail Golf Club has wrapped up for another season following the successful completion of last week鈥檚 pro-am and mixed open tournaments.
Sunday鈥檚 annual Mixed Open drew 80 couples for a total of 160 players, an increase of 20 players over last year鈥檚 rain-dampened event, club pro Jim Boomer said.
鈥淚t was a perfect day,鈥 Boomer said of the Scotch two-ball alternate shot tournament. 鈥淚t went really well. It鈥檚 probably our most social event and that鈥檚 why it鈥檚 so important to have the good weather.鈥
A Calgary couple, Dan and Bridget Smith, were crowned overall champions after shooting a one-over, 73.
The 25th annual Pro-Am Tournament had opened the week on Sept. 13.
Calgary鈥檚 Wes Martin won the individual pro title after shooting a 69, narrowly edging out Dale Tomlinson, who shot a 70.
The foursome of Stephen Black, Darren Black, Sean Slaney and Darcy Hoffus took the team event. The team event was based on a modified Stableford par point system.
鈥淭hat was nice to see a local team win,鈥 Boomer said.
Boomer said the final tournament for the season is the men鈥檚 league wrap-up, the Ironman, on Oct. 15.
鈥淲ith this kind of weather and the condition that the golf course is in, it couldn鈥檛 be a more perfect way to be wrapping everything up so everybody鈥檚 last taste of the golf course is a good one.鈥
