MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County's municipal planning commission (MPC) has approved a development permit for a dwelling and detached bunkhouse in the Fallentimber area on the county's southern boundary.

The approval came during the commission’s recent regularly scheduled meeting, held in person and online.

The property involved is located about one kilometre north of Range Road (Rge. Rd.) 52 off Township Road (Twp. Rd). 302, at NE 16-30-5-5.

The $800,000 project involves the proposed construction of a 4,000-square foot building on the property.

“The bunkhouse would be a 638-square foot ATCO trailer that would be altered to extend the kitchen and dinning room area,” administration said in a briefing note to council. “As the structure is for residential occupancy, a permanent foundation and an engineer sign-off of the unit will be required to ensure compliance with the Alberta Building Code.

“The bunkhouse would be used for temporary accommodations during the construction of the home and once complete will be used as a bunkhouse in support of the farming operations going forward.”

The applicant has submitted a letter of intent indicating that he intends on using the bunkhouse on a seasonal basis for labourers to assist with the planting and harvesting of crops, the commission heard.

“Portions of this property are contained within an environmentally significant area, therefore the applicant and/or landowner is encouraged to maintain and preserve the natural state of the land.”

The approval comes with a number of condition, including that, “It shall be the responsibility of the landowner to place the bunkhouse on a foundation or base in accordance with the requirements of the Alberta Safety Codes Act.”

The MPC is the county’s approving authority and is made up of county councillors and appointed member of the public.
