OLDS — Nine temporary continuing care home Type B beds added into a private Olds retirement facility last year on a temporary basis will become permanent as of March 1.
Alberta Health Services central zone communications director Heather Kipling made that announcement on behalf of the Seasons Encore in an email sent to several local officials, including Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA Nathan Cooper and Olds chief administrative officer Brent Williams.
The temporary beds were installed in the Seasons Olds Encore retirement facility as of March 1 last year.
The email was included in correspondence in town council’s Jan. 27 agenda package.
“Initially intended to remain operational for a 12-month period, these nine spaces have allowed for patients who no longer need acute care services to be transitioned to more appropriate sites of care,” Kipling wrote.
“In recognition that these spaces have been well utilized and considering the ongoing demand for additional acute care capacity in the community, approval has been received to convert the nine temporary spaces to permanent continuing care beds.
“Residents presently living in these spaces will continue receiving the same high level of care and support while remaining close to families and friends."
Councillors made no comment about the announcement, voting simply to receive the correspondence as information.
