OLDS — The Town of Olds council recently approved a semi-annual review of the town’s strategic plan.

The 2022 – 2027 strategic plan was adopted in 2022 and has been updated since then. Council discussed it in January.

Marketing Plan

One strategic priority is a marketing plan for the town. A total of $15,000 is budgeted for that effort this year. Council members were told they will see the plan and its first advertising initiative by spring.

Corporate planning

Council saw an initial draft of this in January. The final draft is expected in May.

Project costing

Implementation of new software and processes, including work orders, accounts payable, and purchase orders is underway at the Town of Olds.

A town request for decision (RFD) says staff are confident a 2026 timeline for this will be achieved.

Long-term financial strategy

The RFD says a 2026 target date for creation of a long-term financial strategy remains “accurate.”

“Our ability to create an accurate long-term financial strategy is strengthening,” the RFD says.

“This strategy, when developed, will be a combination of multiple efforts that are currently underway, including our asset management plan, business plans, reserve strategies, and service level reviews.”

Sustainability planning

It’s expected that a sustainability framework can be brought to council for consideration in 2027, assuming momentum on this file continues this year and next year, the RFD says.

“Such a plan could then be integrated into the next municipal development plan (MDP) update and inform council’s 30-50-year vision,” the RFD says.

Councillors made no comment and didn’t ask any questions when the 2025 strategic plan semi-annual review came up for discussion.

Council passed a motion to accept it for information.
