Museum manager Darlene Smee said the museum has been working with local schools, the art society, local businesses and other groups in anticipation of this week's celebration.

Sundre has received about $4,500 to help put on the local celebration.

鈥淲e have a lot of events planned, working along with other groups in town,鈥 said Smee. 鈥淥n the Friday a lot of the activities will be happening up at the school and the library and the arts centre. Then on Saturday all the events will be down here, at the museum grounds, Elks Hall and the Catholic Church.

鈥淥ne thing we've added is a movie night on Saturday at the arts centre. The movie is Wall-e.鈥

The 64 cities, town and villages hosting Culture Day celebrations will be putting on 鈥渇ree, family-friendly events and cultural activities throughout the weekend,鈥 said Heather Klimchuk, minister of culture.

鈥淎lberta Culture Days is about family, community, diversity and cultural vibrancy. It's a celebration of everything great about this province. Participation not only helps to strengthen community spirit and showcase local talent, but it's also an opportunity to boost the impact and reach of existing cultural programming.鈥

Klimchuk says culture 鈥渃onnects us to our past and our diverse traditions, to our personal and collective imaginations, to one another, and to the place we all call home.鈥

Under the Strategic Initiatives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, the government of Canada is providing an additional $385,000 to the Culture Days 2012 initiative.

Wild Rose MP Blake Richards said, 鈥淎rts and culture are important generators of economic growth, jobs and wealth in our communities. We are pleased to support cultural activities that enrich the quality of life of Canadians, and we encourage all Canadians to take part in their local Culture Days celebrations.鈥

鈥淭his year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada's 150th birthday in 2017,鈥 said James Moore, minister of Canadian heritage and official languages. 鈥淥ur government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today.鈥
