OLDS - An Olds hockey product has been reassigned back to his ECHL team after his second call-up to the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Seattle Kraken’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
The Kansas City Mavericks announced Wednesday that Charlie Wright was returning to the team after being called up to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in December.
“Wright returns to a Mavericks team that continues to build on last season’s historic success, currently sitting atop the Mountain Division and holding the second-best record in the Western Conference,” a Feb. 12 Kansas City Mavericks press release said.
The premier AA hockey league team is in its third season as the ECHL affiliate for the NHL's Seattle Kraken and the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The AHL is a professional ice hockey league based in the U.S. and Canada that serves as the primary developmental league for the NHL.
The defenceman, 21, appeared in nine games with the Firebirds, his first nine games at the AHL level. He skated in both pre-season games for the Firebirds on Oct. 4 and 5.
In 23 games with the Mavericks this season, he has tallied three goals and nine assists for 12 points.
Wright is in his first professional season after five years in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Saskatoon Blades. During his WHL career, Wright recorded 103 points (15 goals, 88 assists) in 256 games and served as an alternate captain in his final seasons.
