OLDS — A Remembrance Day service is being organized by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105, but it won’t be the same as in past years, officials say.
Unlike previous years, the ceremony will be held in the Olds Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 auditorium, instead of the Ralph Klein Centre gym.
Attendance will be restricted to no more than 200 people, so those interested in attending are urged to make that desire known by Nov. 9 by phoning Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 at 403-556-6406 or emailing [email protected].
The organization is following the province’s COVID-19 Restriction Exemption Program. Therefore, those wishing to attend must provide:
• proof of having received two COVID-19 vaccinations, with the second dose having been administered before Oct. 28;
• a negative COVID test having been taken within 72 hours; or
• proof of a medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccines.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105 president Tom Bartholow says masks will have to be worn at least until attendees are seated.
This year’s ceremony will be a scaled down version. It will begin at 10:15 a.m.
Refreshments will be provided in the facility’s lounge after the ceremony, however, organizers warn the seating is limited.
Bartholow says following the ceremony, a short service will be held at the Cenotaph in Centennial Park as well.
This is at least a change from last year, Bartholow says.
“We didn’t have anything last year because we couldn’t do anything,” he said during an interview. “We’re really happy we can do something."
