The senior boys basketball team is heading to league finals this week in second place. The Cyclones beat their competition last week in their first playoff game against Carstairs in Olds.

The Olds Grizzlys advanced to the second round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs on Feb. 28 with a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Mustangs at the Olds Sports Complex.

Local athletes Daniel and Thomas Purcell and Jessica Groeneveld are currently in Brazil preparing for the Pan American Championships set to take place on March 9th and 10th.

The Olds High School Spartans are the 4J south central zone basketball champions, after defeating Crowther Memorial Junior High School in a tightly contested final 52-48. It's the first junior basketball banner for the Spartans.

Both the Olds High School Spartans boys' and girls' senior basketball teams advanced to the Mountain View County Basketball League finals with victories on Wednesday at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Penhold Amazons are heading to the second round of playoffs after defeating the Calgary Warriors 6-2 on March 3. The win was the Amazons' second against the Warriors in a best-of-three series. The Amazons will have to get past the Lethbridge Jr.

The boys who surprised even themselves last summer in their first year as a team, will continue strong into their second season having just heard news they'll be hosting the Western Canada Baseball Championships this summer.

The Penhold Amazons had a great start to their playoff season, trouncing the Calgary Warriors 6-0 in the first of best of three series. "They just kind of dominated the whole game," said coach Val Gill. "The girls played great.

The Olds College men's varsity basketball team earned a hard-fought 58-45 victory on Friday against the Ambrose University College Lions at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Olds Grizzlys came home with a split from their first round Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Calgary Mustangs on the weekend, thanks to a 6-3 victory at the Father David Bauer Arena on Saturday.
