A total of 56 rinks took part in this year's edition of the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes Bonspiel held at the Olds Curling Club from Feb. 14 to 18.

The game that clinched the gold medal for the Zone 4 junior male curling team at the Alberta Winter Games came down to the very last rock. Ty Parcels, 15, is a curler from Penhold and threw the rock that won his team the tournament.

The Olds Bantam Chiefs qualified for the provincial championships on Feb. 12 with a 3-2 victory over Cochrane. The Chiefs will now represent Zone 6 at the championships, which will be held March 22 to 25 in Lacombe.

The Olds Midget Mustangs clinched a berth at the provincial midget championships on Wednesday with a convincing 9-1 victory over Cochrane. The Mustangs won the two-game, total goal series 13-2 to clinch the berth.

The Olds College Broncos varsity men's basketball team exploded on Wednesday for 143 points against the Prairie Bible Institute Pilots, managing an 85-point victory at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Olds Grizzlys finished up their 2011-12 Alberta Junior Hockey League regular season home schedule on Feb. 8 with a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Canucks.
