More than 100 people are expected to turn out to the high school football field this weekend for provincial finals between the Innisfail Pee Wee Cyclones and Calgary Colts.

Coming off a consolation side win at a tournament in Vegreville on Nov. 4 and 5, the Olds High School senior girls volleyball team claimed the south Chinook's Edge School Division league title on Wednesday in Sundre.

This weekend saw the Eagles head up to Lloydminster for a couple of matinee games against the host Lloydminster Border Kings.

The Innisfail Eagles had a home-and-home weekend against the Stony Plain Eagles. Friday night the Eagles played at home and then ventured up the good old Highway 2 on Saturday.

Just a day after being granted a trade to the Okotoks Oilers, defenceman Craig Gans burned his hometown team by assisting on the overtime winner against the Olds Grizzlys in Alberta Junior Hockey League play on Friday.

IHS senior girls maintained their undefeated status last week, finishing the last league game of the season victorious against the rival undefeated team from Camrose. 鈥淚t was nerve-racking,鈥� said Taryn Kramer of the final game of the night.

The Olds Grizzlys traded the team's top scorer so far this season, Taylor Bourne, to the Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League in exchange for 18-year-old forward Mitch Deacon and future considerations.

In 2009, the Peewee Cyclones football team shocked the province by winning the B-side championship and winning a silver medal at provincials. That year was the first time in Football Alberta history a town, not a city, was in the provincial finals.

Down to only three substitutes at the end of the game 鈥� and pressing seventh-string quarterback Dustin Capplett into action 鈥� cost the Olds Rotary Bulldogs in the consolation Tier III final of the Central Alberta Football League Saturday.

Rose Vennard has been a fixture of Sundre curling for more than 60 years, showing up at the Sundre Curling Club every fall to meet with friends and play the game she loves.
