The Olds High School senior girls volleyball team took third place with a 3-3 record at the annual Spartan Smash tournament held on Friday and Saturday at the Community Learning Campus.

The Innisfail High School senior girls are storming through the season, remaining undefeated within their zone. The 3A volleyball team smashed a 10-year record of defeat Tuesday night when they beat Sylvan Lake during a league game.

The IHS JV. volleyball team wrapped up its season last night against Lindsay Thurber in Red Deer.

For the Cyclones peewee football team, it has been the dream season, so far. They ended the regular season with the No. 1 offence, No. 1 defence, and ranked No. 1 overall in the league.

Facing their toughest opponents of the season, the Penhold Amazons extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with wins over the Mountain View Hericanes and the Fort Saskatchewan Fury this weekend.

The Innisfail Eagles had a set of road games this past weekend. Game 1 was Friday night in Carstairs and Game 2 was Saturday night in Bentley. Carstairs is new to the Chinook League this year. They came together from a rec hockey team in Calgary.

One local football player will be getting a chance to improve his skills at an elite camp being held next August in Virginia.

The Olds Grizzlys won two of three games last week in Alberta Junior Hockey League action, defeating the Calgary Mustangs 4-1, beating the St. Albert Steel 6-1 and losing 7-4 to the Grande Prairie Storm.

The Innisfail Eagles opened their 2011 Chinook Hockey League season this past weekend with two home games. First off was Friday night when they hosted the Sylvan Lake Admirals.

Innisfail Jr./Sr. High school city girls team placed second place in the A side playoffs at a home tourney over the weekend. The Grade 8 and 9 girls beat out Sundre and Delburne in the playoffs but lost to HJ Cody in the finals.
